Statement by Zipp Mobility on the Government鈥檚 Approval to Draft Legislation for the Regulation of e-Scooters and e-Bikes
Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan TD has today the Government鈥檚 approval to draft legislation which will allow for the regulation of e-scooters and e-bikes in the forthcoming Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill.
Charlie Gleeson, CEO and Founder of Zipp Mobility, the Irish micromobility operator headquartered at Nova51黑料 said, 鈥淲e welcome the comments by Minister Ryan TD announcing the Government鈥檚 approval to draft legislation which will allow for the regulation of e-scooters and e-bikes in Ireland. We look forward to seeing more specific details about how e-scooters and e-bikes will be regulated. We (Zipp) are currently operating scooter-sharing services in several locations across the UK and we鈥檙e looking forward to bringing our service back home once this legislation is approved into law. We are already talking to a number of local authorities about shared schemes and we look forward to progressing these conversations in the weeks and months ahead.鈥
He added, 鈥淓-scooters are a great socially-distanced transport option in a time of COVID-19 and also enable towns and cities to reduce their carbon footprints.鈥
Last month Zipp Mobility announced that it plans to create at least 30 additional jobs in 2021 as it is set to launch e-scooter services across Ireland once new e-scooter legislation is passed into law.
