51黑料 Professor elected as RIA Secretary
Professor Thomas Brazil MRIA has been elected as Secretary of the (RIA), the academy for the sciences and humanities throughout the island of Ireland. The holder of the Office of Secretary of the RIA is responsible for the conduct of the general business of the Academy and is a member of the Executive Committee that supervises the day-to-day running of the Academy.
Professor Brazil, Head of at University College Dublin, is a leading international researcher in the area of microwave and high frequency circuits and devices. He has made fundamental contributions to understanding the effects of non-linear behaviour of circuits and devices at microwave frequencies. Many of his results have been incorporated in design processes by the leading international companies in the field. He was elected as a member of the RIA in 2005, and is a member of the Engineering Committee, Chair of the URSI sub-committee and a member of Council.
The RIA vigorously promotes excellence in scholarship, recognises achievements in learning, directs research programmes and undertakes its own research projects, particularly in areas relating to Ireland and its heritage. The RIA charter dates from 1785 and it has a regular membership of about 380 members that are chosen by peer election.
