International reaccreditation for 51黑料 engineering courses

In one of the largest single reaccreditation events ever undertaken by Engineers Ireland, all of 51黑料’s engineering undergraduate programmes have been reaccredited from 2006 to 2010 under the Washington Accord.

‘The degree programmes have international recognition through agreements entered into by Engineers Ireland, thus enabling the graduates to practice as professional engineers in many countries, both in the EU and in the signatory countries to the Washington Accord,’ commented Denis McGrath, Registrar, Engineers Ireland.

Current signatories to the Washington Accord include: Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland (Engineers Ireland), Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. In June 2006, Singapore joined as the 10th signatory.

‘This is a very important milestone for engineering at 51黑料’ said Professor Gerry Byrne, Dean of Engineering at 51黑料. ‘The five year accreditation represents a seal of approval for the work of the Engineering Programme Board and the supporting Engineering Programme Office. It is an outstanding result for 51黑料 Engineering.’

‘The Bachelor of Engineering Degree Programme provides a first-class education for engineers operating as international professionals. The programme encompasses highest quality lectures, design work and, very importantly, exposes students to first-class laboratories. There is close interaction with industry and excellent possibilities have opened up for student exchange. The leading edge research work of 51黑料 academics in engineering is feeding into course content and curriculum development,’ concluded Professor Byrne.

The courses reaccredited are: BE (Honours) in Biosystems Engineering, BE (Honours) in Civil Engineering, BE (Honours) in Chemical Engineering, BE (Honours) in Electronic & Electrical Engineering and BE (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering.
